As Internet penetration continues to grow in Africa, many young people are gaining access, and digital experience, especially in mobile Internet culture, is gradually defining youth culture. Increasingly, access to the Internet is gained through mobile phones (Walton and Leukes, 2013), and the number of mobile Internet subscribers is expected to grow to about 550 million by 2020, although about 60 percent of the African population will still be unconnected (GMSA, 2016). For many people in Africa, their first experience with the Internet is through the cell phones.
